Congratulations Brett! It is clear that this baseball player is also very family oriented and would put his family above all else. This is evident in that Brett gave some of his college money to put towards a car, put off getting his driver's license and gave up his injury rehab schedule to help care for his sister. He commented that he has learned what is really important in life, and based on his scholarship application, he clearly does!
Brett has a lot of compassion, proven by his volunteer work in such things as the baseball challenger game with physically challenged kids and his participation in the leukemia/lymphoma charity bowl.
He has shown drive, determination and perseverance through his aggressive rehab schedule. He obviously wanted to get back to the game of baseball. After fearing that he would never play again, he worked extremely hard and maintained a positive attitude to achieve a full recovery.
Brett was a youth umpire for 4 years hoping to teach younger kids how to play correctly and respect the game of baseball. He has played the game for many years and seems to have a true passion for it. Brett’s scholarship recommendation letters indicate he is a true leader with compassion, dedication, maturity, and much respect from his peers as well as teachers.
Although Brett never met Cal, he seems to understand Cal’s love of the game and we truly believe he will do his best to honor Cal's memory!
