Michael Mastalski, St. Charles North High School

Michael MastalskiAt the time of application, Mike had a GPA of 3.535 and was ranked in the top half of his class with a 22 on his ACT. Mike also has played baseball since he was five years old and has played for teams in Aurora, Wasco and Burlington – he also plans to play baseball for his first choice in colleges – Carthage College which, by the way, was made possible for him to attend through the Foundation’s scholarship. If it were not for the CACSP, Mike would have had to attend his second choice in colleges – this has really made a difference in one young man’s life. The committee chose Mike for the following reasons – he is a true team player and has a passion for baseball, he is a hard worker and shows pride in his personal accomplishments displaying incredible determination and drive, mentions his willingness to help the Foundation above and beyond the minimum requirements (“If I am lucky enough to be awarded this scholarship, I would be honored to keep Cal’s memory alive through my love of the game of baseball”), has very specific goals for his future to attend Carthage College and become a police officer – “I have learned how to accept losing, not as a failure, but as an opportunity to learn.”
