Tis’ the Season to Give Thanks

THANK YOU to all of our friends, family, supporters, donors and volunteers!

2009 marks the end of our second full year and since our founding on April 10, 2007 each and every one of you has helped us raise almost $300,000!  This has allowed us to...

  • Grant the wishes of or financially assist the families of well over 80 children battling leukemia
  • Provide 11 teen survivors of all forms of cancer with a once in a lifetime awesome outdoor adventure camp at Devil’s Lake plus several additional bonding events throughout the year
  • Supply Children’s Memorial Hospital, University of Minnesota Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House with hundreds of Wii, PS2, PS3, XBOX 360 games and consoles, DVD movies, arts, crafts, games and supplies
  • Support United Airlines’ employees and their Operation North Pole Program with over $12,500 in Christmas gifts for terminally and critically ill children from the local area
  • Invest in the futures of 4 young college-bound men
  • Assist the local Little League and players
All the while putting enough aside to cover the $100,000 cost of outfitting the new "Wow" room on the Oncology Floor at the new Children's Memorial Hospital slated to open in 2012 with furniture, board games, arcade-style games, pinball, hockey, foosball, electronics, TV’s, video, board games, arts and crafts.  When we say “Wow” room we mean an activity room to beat all activity rooms.  One designed with the help and assistance of past and present pediatric cancer fighters from all age groups that will make those that are receiving inpatient treatment want to come out of their rooms and interact with their peers playing games, holding electronic arcade tournaments, doing crafts or just hanging out in a fun, friendly environment that will constantly be updated so that it remains “cool to hang in” for years to come.

Looking forward, children battling Lymphoma and their families will be eligible for our Wish Granter’s and Family Assistance Programs as of January 1, 2010.  Our eventual goal is to include all forms of pediatric cancer being treated at all Chicagoland hospitals but with over 300 new diagnoses of all forms of cancer and brain tumors each year at Children Memorial alone, growth in our core programs needs to be gradual to mirror our growth in financial resources.

While we are just shy of the $300,000 mark, with your help we could hit it by raising an extra $15,000 during the month of December.  We know it might be a sacrifice to give this year but what better sacrifice could any of us make than a gift that will work wonders – maybe even miracles – for children with cancer?
