KEEP ON SWINGING LUKAS…

Life has its ups and downs. All we can do is keep on swinging, and that’s what Lukas does. Lukas received a wooden swing set as his wish from Cal’s Angels. It’s been a great distraction from treatments for him when the weather is nice.

Lukas was diagnosed with ALL (leukemia) when he was only 10 months old. After 2 years of treatment, he rang the bell celebrating the completion of his treatment, only to relapse a month later. He is now 5 years old and 4 months from being done with his 2nd round of chemotherapy.

In the “downs” of life, we learned that Lukas is experiencing heart failure; in the “ups” of life, he is on the journey to a heart transplant. “We did, however, take a detour in that transplant journey with a family trip to the North Pole – a Fantasy Flight for the whole family. It was an amazing day for all,” exclaimed his Mom.

Lukas keeps on swinging with all his heart. Have a heart. Support Cal’s Angels with your year-end gift today.

Letter from Lukas’ Mom

“Lukas was diagnosed with ALL (leukemia) when he was only 10 months. After two years of treatment, he rang the bell celebrating being done with his treatment only to relapse a month later. He is now 5 years old and is now 4 months from being done with his second round of chemotherapy for the relapse and on Valentine’s Day we found out that he is experiencing heart failure. Originally we were hopeful that it was something that he could heal from, but we have since learned that we are on the road to a heart transplant. We know this now, due to the fact that the two times that Lukas was discharged on home meds (11 twice daily mind you) they were not cutting it, and it was making his quality of life very impaired. It is clear now that he needs to be on IV heart meds, so there is a long journey ahead of us. Lukas received a wooden swingset as his wish from Cal’s Angels, it has been a good distraction from treatments for him when the weather is nice. In 2017 Lucas and his family also participated in Fantasy Flight where he departed Chicago to head to the North Pole, it was an amazing day for all!” – Aliza, Lukas’ mom

Lukas received a swing set as his wish and the family received 12 Oaks Sibling Assistance for extracaricular activities.
